The department of Instrumentation Technology was started in the year 1981-82 with the intake of 40 and later it was increased to 60. As indicated by the continuous opinion from the alumnae and up to date necessities from the core industries, the department has been renamed as Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. The department started new PG course in the academic year 2014-15 onwards with the sanctioned intake of 24. The main aim of this department is, to fulfill the requirement in frontier technology of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering in the area of manufacturing, Instrumentation, Process control, Embedded System, Signal Processing and industrial automation.

The department has been continuously imparting standard and quality service to the students for the past 36 years. The department produced 32 batches of undergraduates so far in which 15 batches under Bangalore University and 18 batches under Visvesvaraya Technological University. The department has been inculcating moral values in addition to the curricular and co-curricular activities. The Research and Development Centre was started in the academic year 2010-2011 to guide and assist the research scholars.

The department is proud about the performance of students in university examination to secure 25 Ranks under Bangalore University (1981-2001) and 43 Ranks under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), (2002- till date). In last two years our students own Gold Medals by securing 1st Rank in University at State level.

The E&IE curriculum incorporates industry relevant technologies like Signal & Image Processing, Microcontrollers, VLSI, Computer communication Networks, Process Instrumentation, Control systems, Bio-Medical Instrumentation, Virtual Instrumentation, Robotics and controls etc., the contents of which are updated in compatibility with the changing industrial needs.

The Program Educational Objectives define future roles for which we are preparing our students by studying four years of undergraduate engineering program. The major objectives for the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering at Bangalore Institute of Technology are:

1. To provide foundation in Mathematical, Scientific, and Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, necessary to solve Engineering Problems.
2. To prepare Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering graduates for Industry, Academia and globally employable with Professional Ethics.
3. The graduates of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering should be able to use their comprehensive skill set to launch a Carrier in Industry, Research and to become an Entrepreneur.
4. To provide a knowledge base for creating new Innovative Techniques in Instrumentation and Process Industry with Multidisciplinary projects.

1. To provide students with core competence in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering.
2. To provide our graduates with skill development in Process Automation and Control Engineering.

Program Outcomes (PO)

The Program Outcomes define the knowledge and skills that will be mastered by our graduates. The graduates will have the ability to

1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

Research and development (R&D) is of great importance in technical field as the level of competition and innovation. Research and development consists of investigative activities that a technical person chooses to conduct with the intention of making a discovery that can either lead to the development of new products or procedures, or to improvement of existing products or procedures. R&D is one of the means by which technology can experience future growth by developing new products or processes to improve.

The department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering/Instrumentation Technology is for the innovation/improvements. The department offers research in the major field of Digital Image Processing, Biomedical Signal processing, Adhoc Networking and Neural Networking & Wavelet Transform.

Two doctorates shares their service and knowledge to guide their research scholars in their fields. Dr. H N Suresh is nominated as incharge of College R & D.

MTech in Signal Processing – PG Programme

Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering have started Signal Processing PG Programme in the year 2014. The program is approved by AICTE and is Affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, Karnataka. The M.Tech (SP) programme is of four semesters (two years) duration. During this tenure, they acquire the in depth knowledge in various field of Signal Processing & Engineering though the rigorous, brain storming teaching- learning process. In addition, the students will be encouraged and motivated to learn the art of effective dissemination of knowledge through seminars and technical paper publications. They are even trained to carryout good project works, so that in future, they are enabled to shoulder the responsibility of performing, managing any project efficiently. The special feature of the programme is to develop aspirant students as self-pride, confident, efficient professionals/ entrepreneurs.

Students will have 6 months internship programme during 3rd semester and our placement centre provides facilities for internship recruitments from major software companies. Most of the students have bagged internship offers from Robert Bosch, NAL, ADE, BSNL etc. PG students will be provided placements during 4th semester and many companies have visited for PG.

Facilities: An independent laboratory is provided for PG with well-equipped systems. Internet facility with IEEE access has been provided to each system.

PG Department is coordinated by Dr. H N Suresh BE,MTech,PhD. His publication at National and International conference is 11 and 17 respectively. No. of publication in National and International journals is 36nos. Six research scholars are completed their research work under his guidance. In the last academic year our students bagged 3 Ranks at University Examination 2017.

Curriculum: The curriculum is aimed to give theoretical and hands on in the areas of advances in Signal Processing. Students have opportunity to work in advanced areas like Signal Processing Techniques during fourth semester and the entire third semester duration is allocated for Industrial Training (Internship) in companies.
