Information Science

The department of Information Science and Engineering came into existence in the year 2000. It is headed by Dr. J. Prakash supported by a highly qualified and dedicated staff. Realizing well in time that theinformation technology wave has become a phenomenon in itself over the past few years, the institute established a separate department to cater the ever-growing demand for professionals in this challenging field. The department aims at cultivating thirst for knowledge, vigor and the vision to look beyond the evident in students. The students are well versed with the exhaustive and thoroughly chosen curriculum, guided as they are by an experienced faculty. Hands on training sessions in various fields of application of IT have imparted to the students considerable acumen in the vast sector. The students perform project work as part of their curriculum to enhance their specification skills, leading to multifaceted development of their engineering concepts.
The Department is currently headed by Dr. J. PRAKASH BE, MS, PhD Dr. J. PRAKASH has a rich experience of teaching and research for more than 20 years. He has published 12+ research papers in the leading international journals and conference proceedings and authored several books in the areas of Digital Image Processing, Digital Signal Processing etc.
1 .Three day Workshop on “Digital Image Processing and its Applications”, March-2012. 2. Two Day Workshop on “Unix Essentials and System Programming” by Apelix Technologies on 16-3-2013 and 17-3-2013. 3. One Day Workshop on “Computer Networking and Cisco Devices” by LIVEWIRE, Yelahanka, Bangalore on 20-3-2014. 4. One Day Workshop on “Computer Networks using Simulator (NS2)” by LIVEWIRE, Yelahanka, Bangalore on 16-10-2015 and 17-10-2015. 5. Conducted six technical talks. 6. The results (98%) and Placement (100% Eligible students) of our department is very good. 7. The department has applied for 02 VTU projects and 1 AICTE project. 8. Computer lab has been equipped with audio visual multimedia system.

Department has enough class and tutorial rooms, there are 3 UG class rooms,2 PG class room with most of them equipped with projectors, one PG lab and research lab and there are five well equipped laboratories. The library is equipped with books, journals and student project reports, for quick reference for both students and staff. The Departmental Laboratories - Algorithm & Data Structures, Database & Networking Labs, Web Technologies, system software & operating system lab and the Microprocessor Lab are equipped with state of the art technologies. The systems work on a dual processor capable Intel-Xeon server, enabling students to access resources across the department. The internet facility is provided by the Department with the speed of 10Mbps(1:1) leased line from Aircel for all systems available in the lab.
